Emergency crews are responding after a Delta Airlines plane crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport, leading to a significant incident on the tarmac.

Officials at the airport released a statement, saying: “Toronto Pearson is aware of an incident upon landing involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis. Emergency teams are responding. All passengers and crew are accounted for.”

The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA) also confirmed the incident on social media, stating: “Our union is responding to an incident in Toronto with Delta Air Lines Endeavor Flight 4819. AFA crew were working this flight. Reports are there are no fatalities. Please do not speculate on this incident as everyone works to gather information and support those involved.”

Meanwhile, Peel Regional Police spokesperson Constable Sarah Patten provided an update, stating: “It is my understanding that most of the passengers are out and unharmed but we’re still trying to make sure so we’re still on scene investigating.”

Delta Flight 4819 had departed from Minneapolis earlier in the day, but shocking videos circulating online now show the aircraft flipped onto its side on a snow-covered runway.

Local news sources, including CP24, have reported that at least eight passengers sustained injuries during the crash. However, authorities have yet to confirm the severity of those injuries.

Reports indicate that the flight carried approximately 80 people at the time of the crash.

The Toronto area had been experiencing severe winter conditions, with nearly nine inches of snow over the weekend. According to the New York Post, airport officials worked to clear the runway on Sunday, February 16, in preparation for scheduled flights the following day.

This crash comes just weeks after another aviation disaster involving an American Airlines flight in Washington, D.C.

On January 29, an American Airlines commercial jet was making its approach to Ronald Reagan National Airport when it tragically collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter.

The impact led to the deaths of all 64 passengers on board the commercial airliner, along with the three crew members inside the military helicopter.

Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River, prompting an extensive search and rescue effort. However, the operation soon shifted from a rescue mission to a recovery effort.

Investigations into the crash revealed discrepancies in altitude data between the two aircraft just before the collision.

According to findings from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), flight data retrieved from the airliner’s black box showed that it was flying at around 325 feet, with a possible 25-foot margin of error.

However, air traffic control logs indicated that the military helicopter had been flying at approximately 200 feet at the time of impact.
