Shahid Kapoor recently offered an interesting perspective on Kareena Kapoor’s character ‘Geet’ from the iconic film Jab We Met. During a conversation with The Indian Express, Shahid reacted to director Imtiaz Ali’s playful comment about ‘Geet’ and ‘Aditya’ possibly ending up at a divorce lawyer’s office if their story continued.
Shahid’s Response to Imtiaz Ali’s Take on ‘Geet’ and ‘Aditya’
Imtiaz Ali, the creative mind behind Jab We Met, was once asked what might have happened to ‘Geet’ and ‘Aditya’ in a present-day scenario. The director quipped that the couple would likely have parted ways and sought legal separation. Shahid Kapoor, when asked about Imtiaz’s comment, responded with a tongue-in-cheek remark, seemingly aimed at the fiery and self-centered traits of Kareena’s character. He said:
“That’s actually a fun idea—that Geet and Aditya are breaking up because they’re frustrated with each other. Aditya would probably say, ‘She is her own favorite; who can ever put up with her?’ If the filmmaker thinks they’d divorce, who am I to argue? I’m just the actor.”
The Shahid-Kareena Love Story: A Timeline
Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were once Bollywood’s favorite real-life couple. Their on-screen chemistry mirrored their off-screen romance, and the two were often seen indulging in public displays of affection. Kareena even turned vegetarian during their relationship. However, after five years of dating, the couple shocked fans by calling it quits.
Interestingly, when Shahid and Kareena worked on Jab We Met, their relationship was already going through turmoil. By the time the film wrapped, their romance had ended. Despite their personal struggles, the characters of ‘Aditya’ and ‘Geet’ remain iconic for fans, embodying a love story that ended happily on-screen, even if the reality was different.
The Fallout: What Led to Their Breakup?
The cracks in Shahid and Kareena’s relationship reportedly began during the filming of Fida. Around that time, both actors were linked with their respective co-stars—Kareena with Saif Ali Khan during Tashan and Shahid with Vidya Balan while shooting Kismat Konnection. Ultimately, their relationship ended while shooting Jab We Met.
Speculation also suggests that Kareena’s family, particularly her mother Babita and sister Karisma Kapoor, were not entirely supportive of the relationship. Despite Shahid’s Bollywood pedigree, they allegedly felt his family did not match the Kapoors’ social stature. Reports further claimed that Kareena’s growing fondness for Shahid had turned into an obsession, as she wanted to work with him in every film.
Both stars eventually moved on to find happiness with their respective partners. Kareena married Saif Ali Khan in 2012, while Shahid tied the knot with Mira Rajput in 2015.
A Jab at ‘Geet’ or Just Fun?
Shahid Kapoor’s recent comment about Geet’s character can be seen as playful banter rather than an outright critique. Nonetheless, it sheds light on how certain character traits from films can evoke such strong reactions years later.
