YouTuber Scott Luu noticed a ‘huge, huge, huge increase’ in one specific bodily function after his 30-day water challenge.
Every January, many people take on new challenges, make resolutions, and try to adopt healthier habits.
For some, this includes swapping out sugary drinks or alcohol for something simple and beneficial like water.
If you’re looking for ways to improve your health and productivity, you might find inspiration in YouTuber Scott Luu’s story.
His personal experiment could provide some valuable insights.
Back in 2020, Luu decided to see if increasing his water intake over a month-long period could have noticeable effects on his energy levels and productivity
. His goal was to find out whether drinking more water could genuinely make a difference in his daily life.
As part of his experiment, Luu committed to tripling his usual water consumption for 30 days.
He meticulously documented his experience and shared the journey in a YouTube video for his followers to see.
Before the experiment, Luu admitted that he didn’t drink much water at all.
So, one of the first significant changes he noticed was an overwhelming need to use the bathroom more frequently.
He humorously reported a ‘huge, huge, huge increase in peeing’ as a result.
Instead of his typical six trips to the restroom each day, he found himself going between 12 and 13 times during the challenge.

Despite the extra bathroom trips, Luu also began to notice more practical and positive effects from his increased water intake.
One major change was how much clearer he felt in the mornings, even after staying up late to edit videos.
He remarked: “Now that I started this water challenge, I chug half a liter of water in the morning and it’s like drinking clarity,”
Describing another noticeable shift, Luu said: “I can feel an immediate difference in energy, and it’s a bit freaky.”
Still, Luu admitted he was: “99 percent sure that’s just my mind reacting to the stimulus of drinking a lot of water because my body can’t really access that energy.”
One unexpected benefit of the challenge was that he found himself needing fewer naps than before. He noted that his daily routine improved as a result of this change.
He observed: “Before the experiment, I took one daily 20-minute nap in the afternoon. During the experiment, it turned into six [days] out of the 30. Energy levels: a definite increase.”
Interestingly, as the month went on, Luu realized that he no longer felt the same instant boost of energy he had experienced earlier in the challenge.
He believed this was likely due to his body adjusting to the increased water consumption over time.
Reflecting on his experiment, Luu was quick to point out that water isn’t a magical solution that can fix everything.
While it had clear benefits, he emphasized that results depend on how people use the added energy and focus it provides.

He explained: “If you don’t have your s**t together, the water would just give you more energy to keep on doing unproductive tasks.”
He also added: “However, if you have intention and focus drinking more water will help boost clarity and energy, increase focus stamina, make you nap less, and cause you to pee a lot.”
Since it was uploaded in April 2020, Luu’s video has reached an impressive 201,000 views and has drawn in hundreds of comments from viewers, many of whom were inspired by his experience.
One user left a comment saying: “This is so motivational and inspirational. Thank you so much for this! I am really grateful.”
Another viewer shared their own experience: “I remember i went a year replacing every drink with water (even at family gatherings, etc.) and I have to say that was my best year, my bloating went down a tiny bit and I didn’t feel groggy after a meal as when I used to drink soda almost non stop,”
A third chimed in with: “My blood sugars are under control after drinking 3+ litres of water everyday for 2 weeks. It makes me wonder whether diabetes is a symptom from a lack of water weight.”
